Site Selection’s annual Prosperity Cup awards states based on competitiveness in attracting new business investments
Illinois placed No. 5 in Site Selection’s 2025 Prosperity Cup rankings, recognized for its competitiveness in attracting capital investment projects. Up from No. 9 in 2024, this high ranking is a testament to the state’s rising momentum as a preeminent global destination for business.
“Boasting a strategic location with unparalleled access to modern and robust infrastructure, a skilled and diverse workforce, and a collaborative and friendly business environment, Illinois is a no-brainer for companies looking to expand or relocate their operations,” said Intersect Illinois President and CEO Christy George.
Site Selection is an industry-leading voice on corporate real estate and facility planning. The magazine recently named Illinois the #2 state for corporate expansion and relocation projects and Chicago the #1 metro for the 12th consecutive year.
Site Selection’s Prosperity Cup rankings are based on 10-point criteria that include facility announcements, capital investment, new jobs, and workforce readiness. Full rankings and criteria are available here.
Tallying 664 investment projects in 2024 (up from 552 in 2023) across a wide range of industries, companies that chose to locate or expand in Illinois included:
- PsiQuantum will serve as an anchor tenant at the first-of-its-kind Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park, creating at least 150 jobs and investing $1.09 billion
- Wieland North America is modernizing its historic East Alton facility, investing $500 million to increase production of critical copper
- Primient is investing $400 million in its Decatur facility to modernize its infrastructure and operations
