The Department of Energy awarded a pair of Illinois-based companies, one being LanzaTech, more than $10 million in federal funds to expand biorefinery projects aimed at producing low-carbon intensive biofuels. LanzaTech will use its award to pilot an integrated field-deployable, zero-discharge, biorefinery concept for producing ethanol and biochar. The ethanol would ultimately be used as feedstock for conversion into SAF at LanzaJet’s Freedom Pines Fuels facility in Soperton, Georgia.
