Jeannie Kern / December 13, 2024

Intersect Illinois President & CEO Christy George gives a presentation about #WhyIllinois.
Last Friday, the Intersect Illinois team had the pleasure of gathering in Will County for breakfast at Bolingbrook Golf Club. It was an exciting morning, hearing a presentation from our own President & CEO Christy George about #WhyIllinois. Additionally, the president & CEO of Will County Center for Economic Development Doug Pryor gave a presentation overviewing Will County’s annual report and highlighting their recent wins and milestones.
So, Why Illinois?
Illinois is the ideal place to be for business, innovation, and opportunity, and Christy George walked us through some key reasons why:
- Illinois is the #1 Midwest state for new business creation.
- Illinois has a strong fiscal standing, with the 5th highest GDP in the nation and the 18th largest economy in the world.
- Illinois is a leader in sustainable development, ranking #1 in the Midwest and #7 in the U.S. (Site Selection magazine).
- Illinois provides a great quality of life, ranked one of the best states to raise a family and Chicago is recognized as the Best Big City in the U.S. for 8 years in a row by Condé Nast Traveler.

Will County Center for Economic Development President & CEO Doug Pryor highlights the recent successes of Will County.
Will County: Milestones and Successes
Will County is a leading county in Illinois (and the Midwest!). Doug Pryor highlighted some of their amazing successes over the past few years, and why Will County is a great place to live and work:
- Will County is #1 in Illinois for job creation, adding 17,900 jobs in the last 5 years. This is more than any county in all of Wisconsin, Missouri, Kentucky, and Michigan (and more than all but one county in Iowa).
- Will County is #1 in Illinois in single family housing, adding approximately 66,000 single family homes since the year 2000.
- Over the past year, Will County has gained exciting new business, including NLX Beverage Solutions in New Lenox, Voortman Steel in Monee, and Hollywood Casino in Joliet, just to name a few.
- 2024 was the first year for Will County’s summer internship program, which provided 38 paid internships for students from Joliet Township High School. This summer, the program has expanded to 9 high schools and will provide 147 paid internships for students. This program helps to fuel the workforce of tomorrow in Will County, and the greater economy of Illinois.
